Link Building

Link Building

Link building is a process that takes time and patience, well quality link building that is. Quality link building is done manually and there aren’t any shortcuts. SEO companies with knowledge of the different search engine strategies know that submitting your website to a number of internet directories isn’t going to cut it.

Like building takes time, which means it’s a long-term project. Most SEO companies require their clients to sign 12-month campaigns because SEO takes time, and the link building process does as well. Quality links are important. Submitting your website URL to a handful of directories isn’t going to build your backlinks. Most likely those directories are junk and you won’t gain anything from them.

Instead of using those meaningless directories, seek out relevant websites that you can work with. Depending on your client’s industry or focus, you can reach out to certain websites and businesses and discuss opportunities with one another. Yes, this is going to take time, but the value you can potentially get out of relevant relationships is work that extra quality link. Building relationships with these websites will benefit you in the long run. Read more …

Internet Marketing Tips That Have Stood the Test of Time

Posted: Friday, January 6th, 2012 by | Filed under: , ,

Some SEO techniques work for a few months or years before they become antiquated by revised search engine algorithms (link farms, anyone?). Fresh Content

With today’s technologically savvy generation, many companies feel the need to use social media to keep up and maintain the interest of their current and prospective clients. And given that platforms like Twitter, Facebook fan pages, and blogging sites are generally free, most businesses (old and new) tend to view social media as a low-risk investment. However, once you decide you want to have a blog or Twitter, you absolutely MUST update them frequently. Even though Twitter and WordPress may be free, you still have to spend time writing new content on a regular basis, or at least you’ll have to pay an employee to do the updates for you. Just having a Twitter, Facebook fan page, and blog isn’t enough to increase your ranking in the search engine results page. Here is a good example that better explains the often over-simplified benefits of social media on web marketing: A company blog ranks relatively high in a SERP. However, one day, the owner finds that his traffic has suddenly dropped significantly. The culprit? His popular blog had not been updated for more than five months. However, once he makes a new blog post, that is enough to bring his traffic back to its standard volume.

Fresh content is good because search engine crawlers will recognize it. But more importantly, fresh content is good because it will naturally attract the attention of users and help you build organic links. Read more …

Smart Phone Marketing

When people think about search engine optimization and search engine marketing, they usually think about how to optimize their website as it would appear on a person’s computer screen. However, the beauty/challenge of internet marketing is that the field is constantly changing and evolving to adapt to new technological advancements and/or consumer behaviors. For instance, it is impossible to ignore the rise of the smartphone. Just think about how many people you see on the bus or inside a store with their eyes glued to their iPhone, Android, or Blackberry.

The rise of the smartphone means that it is no longer enough for SEOs to optimize their websites as viewed by computers—they also need to optimize their mobile websites. Google recently published a study called “The Mobile Movement: Understanding Smartphone Users” that stated that 77% of smartphone users use their phones to visit search engine websites, with nine out of ten of these mobile searches resulting in an action (such as purchasing or contacting the business). Practically all smartphone users use their mobile devices to look up local information, with 88% of them taking action within a day (which suggests that these searches are indicative of immediate needs).

With mobile searches playing such an influential role in consumer behavior, it is wise/beneficial for a business to optimize its mobile site. However, shockingly, only 4.8% retailers have a mobile site. It is apparent that many businesses are completely missing out on this juicy market. Due to the high number of mobile searches that are conducted each day, anyone truly interested in SEO and content marketing should seriously consider learning more about mobile SEO.

Why is Content Important?

Posted: Tuesday, November 15th, 2011 by | Filed under: , ,

If there was one thing we could reiterate to clients over and over again, it would be that content is king. Why? Because content holds the power and can attract and persuade, it’s the most powerful SEO tool. High quality, keyword rich content is also important to your website. There is more and more competition daily for websites and consumers are looking for the most unique, useful and relevant information.

When a search is conducted in a search engine, it most likely started with a few SEO keywords. Search engines then crawl the internet looking for the most relevant content for the user. Search engines are constantly doing updates and indexing, adding new websites and materials. By having your website indexed and showing the search engine your website is content rich and is relevant to specific SEO keywords, the more worthy you look and the better chance you have of them finding you.

Search engines can’t find your webpage if there isn’t any content, or more importantly, SEO keywords. Search engine robots won’t crawl your website if there isn’t any content. Without content, there’s no way of defining your page or figuring out what your website is about, from a search engine’s perspective. Read more …

Writing for a Website

Copywriting is very important for any online marketing and involves strategically implementing words that get readers to follow and perform some type of action (ex: click this link, call to schedule an appointment, etc). As discussed over and over, SEO and web design work well together and there’s no reason why SEO copywriting shouldn’t be part of the web design process.

SEO copywriting is writing web page copy that is not only appealing and interesting for readers, but also ranks well for targeted keywords and terms that people are searching for in the search engines. SEO copywriting isn’t used in traditional marketing (for obvious reasons), but there are still many similarities between copywriting for a website versus copywriting for traditional marketing.

When copywriting for a website, it’s important to incorporate valuable keywords into the copy. Readers are most likely going to find your website (and copy) through search engines by using specific keywords. In traditional marketing, keywords don’t hold much value. Read more …

How to Choose Keywords for SEO

Posted: Monday, May 30th, 2011 by | Filed under: , ,

The first step in SEO is identifying your target keywords. Although this may sound like a simple task, it really should not be taken lightly. You want to select the right keywords to target, and to do so, you must take into account two critical things in your analysis: 1) popularity of the keyword, and 2) the competition for the keyword.

Popularity of the keyword: Your list of target keywords should consist of only keywords that users will be searching. For example, if you own a bakery, it would make more sense to target “bakery nyc” than “bakery new york city.” Chances are that most people will not bother typing out “new york city” and will instead use the abbreviation. If you build links around a keyword/key phrase that no one uses, then you are wasting your web marketing efforts.

A common SEO mistake people make is to use their company’s name as a target keyword. However, there is no need to target your company’s name as a keyword. To illustrate why, let’s go back to the bakery example. Say the bakery’s name is called Sugary Smiles. A business practicing flawed internet marketing techniques would make sure that their company’s website is ranked #1 on the results page when people type in “sugary smiles” into search engines. The problem with this is that it is only useful for attracting people who already know about your company, but it isolates an entirely untapped channel of potential clients who don’t know the name of your company. After all, the likelihood that someone looking for a bakery in NYC will type “sugary smiles” into the search engine is essentially null. When creating a list of target keywords, you have to get into the mindset of your user. It’s not about what keywords you would search to find your company, but rather, it’s about what keywords the potential client will be searching that will lead them to your website. Read more …
