In our previous blog post we touched on a few important things to consider when “shopping” for an SEOfirm. Always do your research, and make sure your SEO company is doing their research as well. To make it easier for you, here are five questions you should ask your SEO agency before hiring them:

1. Are you going to make any changes to my website?

A specific type of SEO is necessary in order for optimization to take effect and that is called on-page SEO. On-page SEO has to do with your website and making sure all pages are properly formatted. The right SEO company will ask for permission to update and edit your site appropriately.

2. Are you going to help create the content? If not, are you going to update or add pages?

As a sub-question to number one, the answer to this should be yes. Many websites build landing pages which SEO companies will then optimize. Targeted keywords also need to be implemented into current content and any updated webpages.

What is PageRank? Google PageRank Explained

PageRank is a numerical value that Google uses to determine how important a page is on the web. In other words, it is a link analysis algorithm that evaluates and measures the importance of your website and along with Search Engine Optimization, is one of many factors used by web marketing in determining where a webpage appears in search results.

Named after Google co-founder Larry Page, PageRank is largely based upon the number and quality of backlinks a webpage has. According to the Google founders, the most important pages on the internet are the ones with the highest number of links leading to them. Think of this as a voting scenario. Each link is a vote and by linking to a site, you are casting a vote. Although each link counts as a vote, pages with a higher PageRank value have more weight when “voting” compared to pages with lower PageRank. Another factor determined in PageRank is the number of links on the page casting the “vote.” Pages with more links have less weight.

So exactly how important is PageRank to your website? Google considers PageRank as one of the most important factors while ranking a site in search results. Just as many other Internet Marketing strategies, PageRank can be vital for any website that depends on traffic from search engines. You will be ranked higher than other sites if you have good PageRank. As mentioned in the previous post, PageRank is measured on a scale of zero to ten.

With all the web marketing strategies and SEO services, many sites are competing for the same keywords. When all factors are equivalent in a web search, then it will be the PageRank of the site that will decide its search ranking. Webpages with a higher PageRank will be ranked above pages with a lower PageRank.
